New Inspirational Book Profiles Christians Who are Living Their Faith and Changing the World
Massapequa Park, N.Y., March 24, 2010 -- When business and technology writer Bob Violino received a life-saving kidney transplant from his wife Renee in 1995, he decided he would devote much of his time to sharing uplifting stories that inspire others.
His first book, New Life: Lessons in Faith and Courage from Transplant Recipients, was published in 2003 and includes a series of moving profiles about people who have received organ transplants and are making a positive difference in the world.
Violino’s latest book, Children of the Light: Inspiring Stories of Christians Living the Faith--and Changing the World, offers an insightful, stirring look at the lives of Christian people who are committed to living the gospels and being true disciples of Jesus Christ. At a time when many are struggling with physical as well as spiritual poverty, these individuals are dedicated to bringing relief to a suffering world and reflecting the light of Christ.
Children of the Light is a collection of compelling stories that will encourage readers to seek ways they can use their own talents and abilities to help make a real difference.
Through uplifting accounts of selflessness and achievement, the book gives readers a deep sense of admiration for what these individuals have accomplished as well as their humility. The stories illustrate how anyone can become a better servant of God, regardless of their circumstances.
"Each of the people I interviewed for the book has a unique story, and insights to share about life, faith and how we all have something to give,” Violino says. “The real lesson is that anyone can be a child of the light—and make a big difference in a troubled world."
"I was deeply moved by the lives of the remarkable people in Children of the Light. Their achievements, against the odds, are inspiring," says Arthur Simon, founder and president emeritus of Bread for the World. "Even more inspiring is the faith from which these achievements spring. They show what God can do in our own lives and challenge each of us to set our hearts on Christ."
Among the people profiled in Children of the Light are a man who began working for a mission in Central America and went on to found an international organization that provides food and shelter for thousands of children and elderly; a couple who, despite great hardship, have dedicated their lives to welcoming hundreds of foster children into their home; and a woman who is working tirelessly to promote peace in the world by trying to get everyone to sing on the same day each year.
Violino has been a journalist for more than 25 years, covering mainly information technology issues for business publications. He also writes about religion and spirituality, healthcare and communications. He is founder and editorial director of Victory Business Communications, a company that provides articles, newsletters, and other print and online materials for businesses and organizations.
His life-saving kidney transplant has given Violino a greater appreciation for the sacredness of life and the importance of faith. "All life is a miracle and a precious gift from God," he says. "I hope these books in some small way help people to live their life and their faith more fully."
